Calculated amount of funding needed in Sweden

Our focus has been on finding the total amount of money needed to accelerate Swedish companies in their first five years of existence. We have approached the estimation with these factors:

  • Money is needed today to speed up the growth process
  • The team has an extraordinary drive and commitment
  • Sweden has the infrastructure and support system to help early-stage companies excel
  • Swedish start-ups think globally from day one
  • The window of opportunity is there or can be created

So, since Sweden has a registration rate of sixty-five to seventy thousand companies each year, we work with these numbers in our assumptions. From a European perspective we also have a high survival rate within our first three years from registration. If we take that into consideration and the knowledge-based assumption that there is an average 20 million SEK funding need with these early-stage companies. This gives us the calculated number of 170 billion SEK in total funding need, right now, and among existing companies five years old or younger.

And according to another knowledge-based assumptions, this is only around 20% of the possible total market. If every swede nurturing an idea, really had the drive/endurance/help/network/luck needed to make it happen, we would excel in all global surveys, regardless of how they are measured.

Sweden is way back in the entrepreneurial comparison.

Entrepreneurs are needed to accelerate the growth of new companies, as well as driving evolution in already existing companies. Compared to other European countries Sweden has among the lowest number of entrepreneurs, only exceeding a few other.

We could gain some momentum by turning our fate to the 20-year plus population, but the real change will come from the children and youth of tomorrow. And it is not a quick fix, this must be done by shifting focus in school. Facing the fact that most children of today will never have a pension system to lean back on getting old, they must be taught how to secure these funding’s themselves.

Workers are a history of the 20th century, now heading straight into the next evolution phase of society the shifting of education must be towards entrepreneurial mindset and innovational thinking. Innovation and entrepreneurship are driving the progress of the future and it is in the startup companies that our future employers are located. And they are not solely workers.

So, if Sweden want to excel and prosper in a region that is far away from the human clusters of every continent, we need many more Swedish companies and entrepreneurs that compete on a global scale. They are unfortunately not born in a high enough paste as it is today.
